The main reason we give flowers as gifts is to express emotion. Flowers convey the deepest feelings in the most elegant way, regardless of whether it’s love, joy, affection, gratitude, sympathy, romance, or apology. A flower is a symbol of love and appreciation. Let’s show some love and appreciation to Richmond, Virginia’s own Nikki Turner.
Nikki Turner, a NY Times best-selling author, is also an Essence best-selling author.
Additionally, she has been dubbed the “Queen of Hip Hop Lit”. Turner wrote A Hustler’s Wife amid raising two children as a single parent while working full time. Turner’s A Hustler’s Wife is a book to be recognized. Ms. Turner, after reading The Coldest Winter by Sista Souljah, wanted to read more urban fiction books.
Unfortunately, there were not too many similar books available. This genre was still emerging. Before authors such as Sista Souljah, Terri Woods Wahida Clark who were also a part of the urban fiction renaissance there was a wide gap in the genre since authors such as Donald Goines. According to Toni Morrison, “If there’s a book that you want to read, but it hasn’t been written yet, then you must write it.” This is exactly what this Queen did. With a fire behind her pen, she set the urban lit on fire and never looked back.

She deserves it all. Nikki Turner is one of the main writers in the best-selling anthology, Girls From da Hood. A Project Chick, Turner’s second novel attracted the attention of Random House. Nikki Turner Presents, a line of original titles by new and emerging authors, was launched by Turner in partnership with Random House. Over the years she had blessed us with many great books that can be found on Amazon, the latest being The Bank Sisters Complete.
Nikki Turner is currently working on exciting projects for the urban lit community.
She gave an insightful response when asked if she would consider writing in another genre, she plans to continue in the writing style of hers which made her a household name.
